Peace in a World of Heartbreaking Headlines

|Mali Clark

Every time we scroll through the news, it feels like the weight of the world presses harder on our hearts. Wars, disasters, division, and uncertainty— it’s so easy to believe the headlines tell the whole story, but they don’t.

The truth is still the same as it has been since the beginning of time: we serve a mighty God who is still on the throne.

He was there before anything was made, and all things continue because of Him” — Colossians 1:17

Behind every headline, there is a greater headline written by the Author of life himself. Our God is still in control, still sovereign, still holding all things together.

Think about King Daniel. His “headlines” weren’t encouraging either.

  • “King issues decree; Worship forbidden.”
  • “Faithful man caught praying.”
  • “Daniel sentenced to death in the lion’s den.”

If you were living in Babylon at that time, the story looked grim. Daniel’s faithfulness seemed to have led him straight into tragedy. The lions were real, the decree was final, and the night was long.

But the headline didn’t end there.

God shut the mouths of the lions. Daniel walked out of the den unharmed. And the king himself declared that the God of Daniel is the living God who endures forever (Daniel 6:26).

What looked liked defeat became a testimony. What looked like chaos became a stage for God’s story. The same God who delivered Daniel is the same God who reigns today, tomorrow, and for eternity.

- The news may say “uncertainty,” but God says “I know the plans I have for you” (Jeremiah 29:11)

- The world may say “fear,” but God says “Do not be afraid, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).

- The headlines may say “darkness,” but Jesus says, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12).

When we let the headlines shape our hearts, it only leads us down a road of discouragement. But when we let God’s word shape our perspective on the world, we are led down a path of peace, courage, and hope.

So, what do we do when the headlines feel heavy?

  • Anchor yourself in Scripture. Let God’s promises be louder than the world’s panic.
  • Pray for the world. Instead of just consuming the news and letting the anxiety fill your life, pray for the nations, leaders, and hurting people.
  • Carry the GOOD NEWS! Be a voice of hope in your community, reminding others that God is still in control.

The headlines may be sad and discouraging, but they are temporary— just as everything else in this world is. God’s story is eternal, and His headline over your life is this: “YOU ARE LOVED. YOU ARE HELD. YOU ARE SECURE IN ME.”

Daniel’s story reminds us that even when the world writes us off, God writes a different ending. The lions may have roared, but they didn’t win; the headlines may scream, but they don’t define.

TAKE HEART: our mighty God is still on the throne.
